Young drivers and recording music

My younger brother passed his driving test yesterday and now he's out and about. He's graduating next month and of course good timing for him to be able to drive everywhere. Hopefully he doesn't drink and drive, as so many young highschoolers do during graduation. Not mentioning any names here...

I'm converting alot of old music I have on cassette and LP's currently. It's my project at the moment. I have my audio components connected to a mixer and my Mac Mini is setup to record. I use Final Vinyl and Audacity to clean up the files. This freeware software combination is working well. There's probably better and professional software and hardware to do the job, but I'm not robbing no bank to complete this project. My main goal is to create mp3 files from these songs and listen to it on my iPod.

No biking today, my legs are resting. I thought it would be worse, but since I got back into biking I think my body is starting to heal itself quicker. Which is always a good thing. Next up, I'm going to try this South Beach diet I've been hearing about from a friend. She is going to fill me in next week over dinner. She's making something special for me to try. Her husband and her have lost weight and eating quite normal, so I am curious about it. This talk of food is making me hungry, time for dinner now!

iTunes 4.9

As some of you may have heard, Steve Jobs this week announced iTunes 4.9 in the next 60 days. A new feature will be support for Podcasts. No one is sure if there will be a fee for some podcasts and others to be free as it is now. We don't know if we will be able to add custom feeds to iTunes or stuck with whatever directory is available.

I can see the third party developers thinking of how they can compete with iTunes. iPodderX for example has released version 3 with bonus features. This might save some developers if they can do it well, but others will just fade away. I think most iTunes users will stick to one application, especially if it is very easy to add a podcast to your iPod.

Maybe our iPods will get a microphone built in now if Apple succeeds here and notices a huge jump in demand for this feature. Would be nice for anyone to just hit "Record" on their iPod, create a show, sync it back to Apple's directory and it shows up on everyone's iTunes player. Hmmm, guess we'll need to wait and see.

Time for biking

Today the sun was out and before it got hotter, I left on my bike ride this morning. After 4 hours I got back home, I rode to the Airport and back from my house. My legs are killing me now, but it was worth it. Getting alot of use out of my $175 bike from Canadian Tire!

I listened to a few great Podcasts during the ride. Insomnia Radio, De-fi Radio and Mostly Tunes. Check them out if you want to hear some real music and kill the radio.

Stealing Star Wars

Well, it's started, Star Wars being stolen on the first day of release. An article in the San Fransisco Gate has a man getting caught with a video camera. I have read articles today that the movie is online now on the Bittorrent network. Sources claim it was released by an industry insider as indicated from the time stamp on the file. Just shows you that movies being online isn't from the regular folks with video cameras all the time.

Back to the grind

Well, I'm back from my trip. There was alot of news I missed last week. The new XBOX 360 has arrived and new Windows Mobile 5 around the corner. Time to catch up on some posts here and update my photo library. Be back soon.
